2022 – Cornhusker State Games

Joe Loder launches an attack at Jordan Scribner during the CSG Longsword Event

Another year, another great Cornhusker state games weekend. This year we had 5 participants in the games, Nick Royal, Jake Frederick, Jordan Scribner, Joe Loder, and Daniel Cadenbach. Nick and Jake started the weekend with Beginner Longsword on Friday night. Joe, Jordan, and Daniel followed up on Saturday with the steel Longsword Event, and Nick and Jordan finished out the weekend with the Mixed Synthetics event.

During both the Beginning Longsword and Longsword events, Nick, and Jake, Joe, Daniel, and Jordan, used the techniques that we study in our curriculum to battle their opponents. Using Fiore’s style of controlling the center line to direct the engagement. In the end, everyone had fun, learned a lot, and got a chance to put the skills and abilities that we study and practice into play.

Then during the Mixed Synthetics sections, Jordan attempted to use a sword/sickle combination, which lead him to to several victories, but not quite enough to place. Nick on the other hand, stayed true to our curriculum and used only a longsword and his practice of Fiore’s Art. This knowledge lead Nick to an exciting battle for the bronze, but was defeated by Tyler Sigman.

All-in-All, NESG had a good showing, not only on the floor but also in the stands. Several guild members and significant others, came to show their support for the competitors. They cheered, yelled, and had a great time.

We’re excited to see what next year brings, and hope that we will have just as much fun.
